I used to work for Uncle Sam doing ballistics and such... rock salt is an interesting consideration for projectile... depending on the shooter's expertise, that is. Rock salt is just as deadly as lead if used at close range, that is, other than intended. The use of rock salt in scatter guns was used at distance (the noise and 'blast-pattern' of the gun being used to scare away intruders, and, of course, salt in a wound...), but we all know that the best laid plans... whenever firearms are employed there's always gonna be that one in a hundred situation where the quarry WILL 1.) suddenly be in immediate proximity and/or 2.)suddenly walk into the gun (bullet-proof???). Suggestion: learn to load your own ammuniction. This way the charge (powder) can be modified to produce a less effective muzzel velocity... that is if you still wanna be loading 'salt' down yer barrel.
