This may be upsetting to some people here, but I partially agree with GS. The American Judicial System (I refuse to call it a Justice system with such things as Plea Bargains and Reasonable Doubt damaging cases) is not perfect, and does not afford true punishment to everyone deserving. I do not, however, think we should take up the role of jailkeepers to society's worst. At most, I only believe we can remove those with vital information from their comfort zones for a few weeks or months. The truly mad or psychotic, perhaps we can contain them for public safety, but for years? No, that doesn't solve anything. If we ever do have anyone truly harmful to society, and unable to be rehabilitated, then we must approach other agencies or entities to take those people off our hands. Our role is not to cage these people, merely keep them from harming others. We catch them, we hold them in brief custody, we release them to someone else's authority.
