Even if you did lose track of your point, Hero, I want to say thank you for reminding us that there's a human side to the criminal element, and that reminds me that I fight for mankind: both those held as innocent and pure, as well as those demonized and prejudiced as simply "bad." There are many layers to human beings, so there really isn't an easy "right and wrong" answer to our question of what to do with the worst of the worst. Clarity of our dilemma is perhaps the best we can accomplish with this discussion: Is our only function to act as a physical force to oppose the worst and most pervasive criminals (and also the most insidious/deceptive)? Or, are we to try and become a new variant of trying and judging society's ills? I'm not putting forth one or the other, just trying to summarize.
